There are many Michigan banquet halls in Michigan (well over 400 for you to interview). If you are planning a wedding reception, then the selection factors may be more demanding. Traditional private parties will still require some time when browsing around. This list will help you select the right one.

Options for Outdoors

Is there an outdoor patio? Is it an up sell? Can you get it thrown in if you book during certain times of the year? There are other options that vary between Michigan banquet halls. Other options include gardens, outdoor tented areas, pathways, and more. I will tell you why these may be important later.

Layout & Setup

Layout of the hall is not something to overlook. It might make it harder for some of your other vendors to do what you want them too. Rooms might have different layouts. Depending on your style you may want to consult with any of your vendors if you suspect a problem with your banquet venue layout. For example accent lighting does not work well with a room filled with windows. More and more banquet halls in Michigan are trying to give you a variety so that they can appeal to different tastes.

Banquet Halls in Michigan $

Oh, let us not forget that pricing IS an important factor. Please keep in mind it is not the most important. Some venues can charge an arm and a leg because of how much detail is put into their layout; others have more simple economic solutions. This is not to say that you should ignore pricing. When you interview with different banquet halls in Michigan you will notice the price ranges. My best advice is for you to go with the one that is most convenient with you want to accomplish.

Number of Guests

This is a biggie! Make sure that the Michigan banquet halls can meet the needs of your guests. All banquet halls have a max capacity, and some even have minimum requirements. Before you start interviewing with your venues please have some sort of number in mind for how many you will be expecting. If you are using them to caterer the meal, then your head count will also be required for the quote for the meal. Also remember that your vendors who work hard for you may require a vendor table at your event and you may want to include them in the head count.

Outside Vendors Yes or No

When you do not use outside vendors your packaged price brings your total down. This includes in house DJs, caterers, florists, cakes, photographers, and videographers. Now, what are the drawbacks to using in house wedding vendors? If you have your heart set on a couple of banquet halls, then you may have to use their in house DJs. Let us say that you interview the DJ and he does not seem that competent, what do you do? Exactly, this is one of the drawbacks. Some companies sacrifice quality for quantity when they are in house contracted. You might have to use their bartenders as well. This means you can not bring in your own alcohol. There are many pros and cons, but you get the idea. Your best bet is to interview other vendors that are not in house beforehand. This way you will know how to negotiate with the in house vendors or hall because of the reasonable quotes you got from other wedding vendors in Michigan.

Michigan Banquet Halls

To summarize everything, you will have to evaluate the overall appeal of the banquet hall. Can your photographer take great shots outside? Is there a chapel? If your reception hall is not being used for the ceremony, then is it close to the church? This is where the number communication failure happens, in route from church to hall! Will there be changing rooms if you are having your ceremony there? Do you need to do much decorating, or is it already presented well? You can see how all of this factors into pricing. Good way to find out is to ask how many weddings they did last year and ask for recent references from people within the past year. Make sure these references are similar with your event type.

Every flying thing, whether it’s an airplane, spacecraft, soccer ball, or flying kid, experiences four aerodynamic primary forces: lift, weight, thrust and drag.

An airplane uses a propeller or jet engine to generate thrust. The wings to create lift. The smooth, pencil-thin shape minimizes drag. And the molecules that make up the airplane attributes to the weight.

Let’s find out what are all the parts of an airplane for. You’ll need to get a cheap balsa wood airplane for this next part – check out your local drug store or toy store. I’ve even found them in grocery stores for about $2.

Take the balsa wood airplane and try to fly just the body (no wings or fins). It flips all over the place. Try flying just the large wing (no body). Somersaults!

Now slide the large wing into the body and fly (fewer somersaults, but still sickening to fly in!).

Now add a horizontal stabilizer (elevator) tail, and when you throw it, add a slight curve so the plane “fishtails” in the air (like a car)Â… but did you notice that there are no more somersaults?

Add the vertical tail (rudder) and see how it now steers straight no matter how to curve-throw it.

Sneaky Tip: if you remove the metal clip on the nose beforehand, you can add it last to really see what it’s forÂ… notice where most of the weight is without the clip?

Let’s make more things that demonstrate these flying ideas!

Helicopters: Cut out a paper rectangle 5 by 2 inches. Cut lengthwise down the strip, stopping about an inch before the end. Tape this uncut inch to the end tip of a popsicle stick. Fold the “bunny-ear” flaps down in opposite directions. Throw off a balcony and watch it whirl and gyrate! (Optional: You can notch the end of the popsicle stick to make a sling-shot helicopter. Make a quick slingshot launcher by looping a rubber band to another popsicle stick end.)

Butterfly Cups: Tape two Dixie paper cups together, bottom-to-bottom. Chain together six rubber bands. Loop one end of the rubber band chain over your thumb and hold your arm out horizontally straight, palm up. Drape the remainder of the chain along your arm. Place the taped butterfly cups at the free end (near your shoulder) and slowly wind the rubber bands around the middle section of the cups. When you wind near the end, stop, stretch the chain back toward your elbow, make sure the rubber band comes from the underside of the cups and release. The cups should rotate quickly and take air, then gracefully descend down for a light landing. Try making one with four cups.

Hot Air Balloons: Shake out a garbage bag to its maximum capacity. Tape (use duct or masking tape) the open end almost-closedÂ… you still want a small hole the size of the hair dryer nozzle.

Use the hair dryer to inflate the bag and heat the air inside (make sure you don’t melt the bag).

When the air is at its warmest, release your hold on the bag while you switch off the hair dryer. It should float up to the ceiling and stay there for a while. This experiment works best on cold mornings. The greater the temperature difference between the bag’s air and the surrounding air, the longer it will float.

Parachutes: Attach a piece of floss or thin string to the four corners of a tissue. Attach a stick, a small wad of stones wrapped in another tissue, a pinecone, etc. to the centers of the string. Practice dropping these from the balcony and see which falls slowest with which load.

Ring Thing: Cut an index card into thirds lengthwise. Loop one strip into a circle and tape ends together. Place two remaining strips together end-to-end and tape, then loop into large circle and tape in place. Place a piece of tape across one end of a straw and gently secure one ring to the tape. Repeat on the other end with remaining ring. Make sure the two rings are concentric (you can see through both like a telescope). Throw it small-end-first!

Free Form Machines: Make an obstacle course with some or all the following different challenges:

-Hit a target balloon (arm the machines with opened paper clips)

-Go over and under a suspended length of string

-Make it through a hula hoop suspended vertically or horizontally

-Carry a jelly bean passenger safely across shark-infested waters (two tables spread apart)

-Dangle large paper airplanes (made from 11×17″ paper, or two 8.5×11″ papers taped together to make an 11×17″) from the ceiling for a ‘dogfight’ to earn points if you tag one

-Shoot through the basketball hoop, and dive into a basket.

It is a common argument that ‘a fit worker is productive worker’. It is becoming a universal realization that demands modern organizational practice has increased chances of stress breakthrough among employees and it’s becoming crucial for managers to identify sources and formulate strategies to reduce it (Papers4you.com, 2006).

It is argued that stress can be good as well as bad however bad stress is what causes adverse effects in employee’s productivity. Bad stress is ‘a mismatch between a person’s self-image, their attributes and talents and organizational environment they work in’ (Nankervis et al, 2002). Moreover ‘burn out’ is taken as the extreme form of stress that is a stress syndrome characterized by emotional exhaustion, depersonalization and reduced personal accomplishment (Mejia et al, 1998).

Bad stress has become such a serious aspect that in Japan, stress (karoshi) is perceived as a destructive national dilemma and issue. In order to reduce bad stress it is important to know the reasons behind it. Just imagine an example where a middle manager and publication officer working in a publication company. She is responsible for the regular publication of two monthly journals, research for yearly statistical reports as well management of short term contracted staff. Such huge workload resulted in forgetfulness, irritability, lower productivity, postponed deadlines and spread of such melancholy across the organization (Nankervis et al, 2002). So sources of bad stress can be climate, change, rules, work pace management style, work group characteristics and many other reasons (Mejia et al, 1998). Similarly bad stress in workplace can be caused by long hours working, repetitive and distasteful tasks, isolations, job hazards, poor public image of organization, lack of job security or any conflicting demands (Nankervis et al, 2002)

So keeping publication’s in view, after taking first step of realizing concept and sources of bad stress, second step for managers is to reduce it (Papers4you.com, 2006).

Mejoa (et al, 1998) has given interesting 10 points guidelines for managers to follow quoting from Solomon’s ‘Manager’s Note Book’. It includes allowing employees to talk freely with each other, reduce personal conflicts in the job, giving employees enough empowerment and control over their own work process, ensuring adequate staff budgets, open communication with employees, supporting employees’ efforts, provision of competitive leave and vacation benefits, maintaining current benefits, reducing red-tapism and recognizing and rewarding employees for their accomplishments.

Similarly reducing stress should be a permanent part of policy for new employees. ROPES (Realistic Orientation Programs for New Employees’ ‘Stress’) method is best way to address orientations; stress reduction role (Dessler, 2003). It is argued that its more easy to reduce stress if new employees are being told from the orientation about the disappointments they may experience and the way to tackle them.

Hence, there is no second argument on the fact that bad stress can be detrimental for organizational progress and employee’s productivity that however can be reduced and managed by identifying sources and effective policy making.
